Peace & Plenty in the Bahamas
We are just about settled into our new island home. Even though I come here often for work, and occasionally for long periods of time, life in Nassau takes a little adjustment. It has something to do with the lack of exactly American conveniences - no two cars in the driveway, no iPhone downloading wherever and whenever, no Publix two blocks away and no Netflix in the mailbox. Our first month here had versions of these things, but all with an island twist. Maybe all of this means that I am a 40 year old guy who was a little too settled in Miami Beach. But the change is underway!
Anyway, we put the first couple of hectic weeks behind us with a trip to Georgetown, Exumas. In terms of water and lifestyle, Georgetown is some of the best that the Bahamas has to offer. We stayed at the Peace and Plenty Hotel. I haven't been back since the Pirates Marine Department took over during P3, but one rum and gingerale on the porch brought back all the good memories. It is a very relaxed place. Lara and I rented a 17 foot Whaler on Saturday and spent the day swimming at quiet beaches on Stocking Island. It was the lead up to the Island Regatta, and C Class sloops circled the bay. I always think of the Exumas as a thin line of land between a huge sky and the flat ocean. It was these ideas that I worked with on Saturday.
